My misadventures in sewing

Looking Back...Visiting Places (for real and part three)

Looking back into my childhood, I always had a penchant for all things beautiful and colorful. I remember going to the local paint, wallpaper and art supply store, Color Haven, with my mom when she was doing stuff with the house. Yes, it was a haven for me. As a child I love strolling through wallpaper books and paint chips. And I had to come home with some art supplies just for me to play with.

I started each school year with a brand-spanking new box of crayolas -- all 64... and yes, I knew the color names.. Each and every one of them! Then I got the surprise later of a new box under the tree at Christmas. In school, my favorite subject was art. In high school, I majored in art. Even planned on majoring in art in college, only to have common sense prevail and major in business.

After being let go from my first real job, I chose to go to interior design school. That's how I got to Nashville. A year and a half into it, I got real sick, had a major family upheval and then the market went to pot.

Now that I'm back into a creative mode, I'm enjoying this groove. Some days are more creative than others. I guess it's like gardening:

  1. First you prep the soil - get in the creating mood
  2. Plant seeds - an idea pops in
  3. Cultivate the crop (feed and weed) - you mull it over and work on your project
  4. Harvest - a completed project

On a side note, I get to take a short trip tomorrow. We're headed to Oklahoma City to see an old college roommate of mine. I can't wait. It's been about twenty years since we last visited... She's never met my husband, so I'm looking forward to introducing my husband to her family.

And while we're talking about visiting places, here's the last installment to my teacher links:
