It snowed last night. Now the Mid-Atlantic and East Coast are getting the snow we casted off. We had a bit of sunshine, but the temps were cold. I stayed in the front of the airstream in the sunshine... Had all the curtains and skylight shades open to get my sunshine quota.
Today I got out my sewing stuff since we're here for the week. As you recall, the other day I bought a bunch of new shoes for Rosie. Well, today I put tried them on.
First up to bat was the twin needle and the pintuck foot. Wow, I really liked that. Funny part was that I used it best when I wasn't thinking about it! LOL... Second was the blind hem foot, which failed miserably. Of course I did that without any instruction or research whatsoever. I will read up some more on that. The second success was the cording foot, which I put to use immediately on today's project.
I wanted a pretty totebag/purse, so I designed one totally off the cuff. I needed to practice my gathering skills (using my new-found cording technique) and decided to use my black and gray winter floral fabric and the accompanying stripe. So I just started cutting and sewing...
Here is what's finished so far. I just want to gild the lily by adding some covered buttons or some really cute plastic buttons to hide the stitching for the bag handles. I love the lining! I made it from the stripe fabric and did pockets across the whole inside. You know how us ladies love the pocket-action. I practiced "boxing" the bottom and got to use my cording/gathering technique. Wow, that was fun!
To be honest, it turned out way better than I expected.
Well, it seemed I only had the one taker for the Ask Lois post yesterday. Don't despair. I'll take questions all week! Just ask!
To answer Pat's question, She learned from a previous post that I used to work for a country music legend and wondered who that was. Years ago (almost seems like a prior life) I used to work for Crystal Gayle at her gift and jewelry shop in Nashville. It is now closed. She and her husband were wonderful people to work for. She truly is a genuinely nice lady. I have nothing but respect for her as a person and her talents.
Crystal's store carried beautiful gift and jewelery items. There I discovered my love for fine porcelain and crystal. Among my most treasured possessions from that job is a Faberge egg (Eternity Egg) made and signed by Theo Faberge, the grandson of the famous Carl Faberge. I even have a photo of Theo and I together during a store visit.
Wow, today we've gone from airstream travel trailers to heirloom sewing techniques, to tote bags, country music stars and artifacts... Only here...LOL!

Great bag.......and if I recall correctly from years back, the blind hem foot was tricky to learn but GREAT once you mastered it. The Faberge egg is lovely and thanks for answering the question. Geeeeee...what is WRONG with people...don't they have inquiring minds?? I'm gonna be back with another question in a couple of minutes, cuz you never said it was just one question per person...did you??? :)
Okay...I'm back with that next question. Will you please tell us about your published writing(s)? It is obvious from the wording on your blog posts that you have a real way with words, so I'd love to know what your past writing experience was.
LOVIN' the bag that you made! Oh my gosh but that is CU-UTE!
I like the bit of history you shared about working for Crystal Gayle. Boy THAT name brings back memories (I was fascinated by her hair and loved it when she performed on Hee Haw).
